Oretorp is where we, Magnus and Ann Svensson, live, close to nature on the small farm which comprises grazing pasture and fruit farms between the beech forest and Ivö Lake.
We've been here since 1986; our children, Henric and Robin, grew up here on the farm and often return on visits.
Our dogs, Ralph and Vera, live on the farm together with the cats, Betsy, Selma and Teddy.
Our farm also has horses and sheep which graze on the pastureland. Preserving the open landscape and tending to the pasture means not only keeping animals but also lots of work, but the result - the open pastureland with its flowers, heather, juniper bushes and all the butterflies and bees is well worth it.
Since the pastures are so abundant with heather, we've also been thinking about beekeeping and producing our own honey - watch this space!
Having the forest, both beech and mixed, so close to the house raises our quality of life, from forestry work to woodland walks, from tender vegetables in early spring, berry picking in the summer and mushroom picking in the autumn. In the forest we can come across roe deer, stags, foxes, badgers and moose; when you stand silently in a grove watching the moose grazing you can feel at one with nature.
In the orchards you can find apples, pears and plums, where our tenant farmer tends to our fruit growing although you can visit at any time of the year. Pruning takes place in winter, and thinning out in the summer so as to improve the harvest, which starts in July with the first plums and continues throughout autumn.
The lakeside, which has its own landing-stage, is a place for recreation and relaxation or the starting point for a tour of Ivö Lake by canoe or boat.
New dams for crayfish and trout are currently being built. The first crayfish have been introduced but there is still a lot of work to be done before we can put on our first crayfish party.
Welcome - we'd love to share our beautiful environment with you!
